Authentic Matters

Authentic Matters was created to help people to reconnect with what really matters: connection to inner self, real connection to others, protection and caretaking of the environment and its inhabitants and Divine connection to something greater than ourselves.

Barbara is an everyday spirituality expert who is a spiritual teacher, speaker, Reiki healer, writer and business woman. In all its activities, Authentic Matters seeks to answer the question, "How May I Serve?" and to provide inspirational tools in order to make a difference.

Did You Know About Our Lightworker Fund?
A portion of every sale will be set aside toward raising 1000 Euros to be donated to a charitable organization. Once we reach our target, another organization will be chosen and we will put aside 1000 Euros for them and so on.
It is called the Lightworker Fund because a lightworker is someone who does good works for others and begins to remember his or her soul purpose.

A Note from Barbara

As I begin to talk to people about the idea of bringing more spirituality into everyday life, I recognize that people are craving for this type of connection.
Simple concepts such as SURRENDER, FORGIVENESS and PERFECT TIMING, once understood, can be used in a spiritual as well as everyday context.

Everyday Spirituality E-zine
Celebrate the Spiritual in You
November 2006 Volume 1, Issue 1
Greetings!
Welcome to the Premier issue of the Everyday Spirituality E-zine! This monthly is dedicated to helping you stay in touch with your inner self in practical and down-to-earth ways.

Many people get to a certain stage in their lives and think, "Is this all there is?" They have the house and the cars and the material things they always wanted to acquire but something is missing. They say, "Is this all I can expect from this life?"
My answer to these questions is a resounding, "No!"

While you may have reached your material desires for a comfortable life, there is a vast landscape of undiscovered territory to be found within you to help you make that connection to the people and things that really matter.

Come and share the journey of exploration and discovery with Authentic Matters in this monthly uplifting message.

Feature Article: Combining Practical Life with Spiritual Life
Everyday Spirituality is the conscious choice to integrate our spiritual self with our practical everyday self.
We do all the things we have to do in life: taking care of family, doing our jobs well, maintaining our social contacts and dealing with stress and challenges that inevitably come up.
We can bring an element of spirituality and calmness to these everyday activities. Here are 5 things that you can do to bring more spirituality into your life:

1. Make time to reconnect with your inner self.
Each day try to spend at least 15 minutes alone in silence to reconnect. You can sit in a chair in a quiet place in your house or walk in nature. Make the effort to find this time and space to reconnect.

2. Create a "Sacred Space" in your home.
Set aside an extra room or a corner of your bedroom to make a place that is just for you. On a small table, place a candle, favorite spiritual picture, have soft music in the background and even incense adds to the atmosphere. Creating a ritual where you go to this special place on a regular basis offers you a refuge from the chaos of the world and a place to reconnect with inner self.

3. Ask for a connection to Divine guidance and wait for the response. You ask for more balance or peace in your life (prayer), and listen for the response (meditation). It sounds so simple but so few people slow down and listen. We are a society of immediate gratification with little effort. We ask and plead for divine intervention on challenges in our lives but do not listen to the response the Universe wants to give us! Each challenge or hardship offers a lesson for us to learn. We must make the time to be still and listen to what that lesson might be.

4. Read some inspirational texts. Get access to books, articles and websites with spiritual themes that speak to you. If you bring this type of positive energy information to your life, you will eventually see it spill into your practical life and your viewpoint of the world will change.

5. Listen for messages you receive throughout the day. We all receive intuitive messages throughout the day but often don't know them to be such. We hear a voice in our head giving us a nudge to take some positive action or have a "gut feeling" about something. We should be aware of these little taps on the shoulder guiding us toward our greatest good.

These things are what Everyday Spirituality is all about; reconnecting to inner self through different forms of awakening to our spiritual side. Once we are aware of this added dimension that we can access at any time, we can use it in our everyday lives to be happier and cope with whatever comes.

Five Minute Meditation
man lake

Here is a short meditation that you can do right now as you read this at your computer.
It is called: WE ONLY HAVE THE NOW.

We have no guarantees about the future and not one thing about the past can be changed. That means that we only have the now - the right now - to appreciate our lives and live in the moment. Be mindful of the present and you will be able to live a happier, more centered and more fulfilled life.
Listen to the meditation through the link below. A small box will appear. Open it and hit play. When completed, hit return to e-zine. If you cannot listen, here is the text:

Welcome to this five minute meditation called, We Only Have the Now.
Sit deep in your chair with your back straight and your feel flat on the floor. Hands on your legs and relax. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take a few minutes to center yourself. Breathe in to count of 5, hold for 2 seconds and release for 5. Again. Concentrate on your breathing. This is very important in meditation. When your little nagging thoughts of the past or the future creep into your mind, gently brush them away and concentrate on the now. This moment. Those other things will get your attention later,if necessary.
Concentrate on going within to your place of inner strength and centeredness. You can find it. It is deep within you. Imagine there in that place of inner connection that you see a comfortable looking bench. Sit down for a minute and rest there. Remain in the now of this experience and relax and breathe. It is very nice and peaceful in this place. You are feeling happy and serene in this place within. Just be in the moment with this and enjoy the peaceful sensation. Breathe in slowly and breathe out. Tell yourself that it is OK to just be yourself, exactly as you are, with all your faults and all your good qualities. No matter what happened before, today is a new day. A fresh start for you. Experience the present moment becoming brighter and filling you up with positive energy and peacefulness. Take a deep breath and take this in. Release this breath and feel happy.
Now you will get up from your bench and start to come back to the room where you are sitting. Move your arms and legs and stretch your shoulders and open your eyes when you are. ready.
Take a moment to become more alert. You want to take this happy feeling with you throughout your day today.
Remember to live in the moment, because we only have the now. We cannot change a single thing about the past and we cannot see the future. We only have the now.
