Feature Article: Using Spiritual Principles in The Workplace

By Barbara Rogoski
For those of us that have jobs away from home, it
seems like we spend more time in the office than at
home. In many cases, in this hard driving world, that
is true. You may have many things to cope with at
the office such as over demanding bosses, self
serving colleagues and high levels of stress. Believe it
or not, there are many simple spiritual laws, if
understood, can help you to cope with the
challenges of your working life. Here are 5
spiritual laws for you to consider and implement if the
situation presents itself in your work or personal
life:
1. LESSONS TO LEARN: When you find
yourself in a difficult situation, believe that
everything happens for a reason and you are exactly
where you are supposed to be to learn a lesson. Ask
yourself, “What lesson am I supposed to learn from
this hardship or challenge?” Spend time on this in
quiet contemplation and if you are open, you will
receive a fresh outlook.
2. RELIANCE ON INNER STRENGTH: When
you are criticized or harshly treated, step back from
the situation, take a deep breath and return to your
center point of inner strength. (See previous
newsletters) Evaluate if the treatment is justified or
not. If it is, learn from it and use your inner strength
to make changes. If it is not, release the hurt and
ask for guidance and healing from your higher
self.
3. EGO IS THE GREAT SABOTEUR: The ego is
the little negative voice that tells you that you are
no good and that you are not worthy to go for that
promotion or take on a big project and be successful.
The ego says, “Who are you to think you can
achieve this goal? You will never succeed. Stay
where you are – it is safe.” You must catch this
crafty little ego by the toe and say to yourself, “This
is the ego talking and I will NOT listen. I will reach for
my greatest good and for what I want in this life with
God’s help.”
4. SURRENDER AND RELEASE: One of the
classic spiritual laws that can assist you in many
ways! When you are worried about the outcome of
some situation or need to make a difficult decision, it
can make you physically sick with worry! You must
set your intention of what you want the outcome to
be, believe that this outcome will be realized or
something better and then mentally and emotionally
release it to the universe. It is really your mind
releasing control of the outcome and allowing God to
intercede. Realize that God wants to help us
overcome obstacles and be happy in our lives if we
release the outcome for He is sufficient to our every
need.
5. RECIPROCITY: Quite simply, what we give
out to the world, we get back. If we believe that our
lives are guided and supported by the universe and
set our intentions for good, then good will flow back
to us. If we see and expect the negative and see
ourselves as separate from God, then our life will
continually be filled with obstacles.
These are just a few of the powerful spiritual laws
that can help us understand how the
universe works from a spiritual point of view and how
we can use these principles in our daily lives.

Five Minute Meditation
The 5 minute meditation for January takes you to a
warm sunny beach for a stroll. While it is not cold
here, it is oh, so dreary!Be aware
of your
different 5
senses as I describe the different things that you are
experiencing. What is the strongest sense? Is it
sight, sounds smell, taste or feeling? The strongest
sense here will also be the strongest sense you
naturally use when you receive intuitive messages
from your inner self. Enjoy the experience and
imagery and go with the flow. You can visit this
lovely beach anytime you need a “quick” getaway.
To listen, click on the link below. If you cannot
listen, here is the text:

Welcome to this five minute meditation called,
A Stroll Along the Beach. Sit deep in
your
chair with your back straight and your feet flat on
the floor. Hands gently resting on your lap and relax.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take a
deep breath in for a count of 5, hold for 2 seconds
and release for count of 5. Again. Breathe in for
count of 5, hold for 2 seconds and release for a
count of 5. Continue to breathe in this manner as
best you can as you listen further to this meditation
exercise.
Concentrate on your breathing. It is very important
to be aware of your breathing during meditation as it
helps you relax and form a rhythm. When those little
nagging thoughts creep into your mind to distract
you, gently brush them away and concentrate on
your breathing. All your other worries and
concerns will be taken care of in good time.
In your mind’s eye, imagine yourself at the beach on
a beautiful, warm summer day.
You are looking fit and tanned and feeling good about
yourself. You take off your sandals and carry them
along the water’s edge. You hear the rhythm of the
ocean waves as they gently run up the shore and
rush over your bare feet. The cool water feels good
against your skin. The seagulls are calling to each
other in the distance. You look out at the horizon
and see a few sailboats in the distance. You find
yourself walking along leisurely, with no particular
place to go. The salty sea air floats around you as
the breeze gently blows through your hair. Take a
deep breath in and smell
this salty air. At this moment, you feel very happy.
The sand against your feet is not hot, but soft and
warm. You feel the healing rays of the sun on your
skin. You hear a few children laughing and playing
behind you and look to see that they are building a
huge sandcastle. One boy yells to his brother to
come and have a look.
You are feeling calmer and more relaxed as you stroll
along the beautuful beach. You notice that you are
getting
thirsty and see a lemonade stand a short distance
away. You approach it and smell the citrus smell of
the lemons
wafting through the air. You buy a cup of the ice
cold, tart liquid and take a deep drink of this lovely
lemonade. Taste it in your mouth and feel it slide
down your throat. How refreshing that feels, and
quenches your thirst immediately. You see a
grove of shady palm trees a bit higher on the beach
and you go there and sit down. You are feeling
peaceful and relaxed in this environment. You heave
a big sigh, and think, why can’t all my days be like
this?
After a few minutes, it is time to come back to the
room where you are sitting. You become aware of
the room and your surroundings and of yourself.
Move your legs and arms and open your
eyes. You are back to where you started but feeling
much more relaxed and peaceful.
This is a guided visualization that you can do anytime
you
want to run away but only have a few minutes to do
so. There is value in regular meditation: to relax, use
your imagination and simply connect with your inner
self.

feature, if it works properly and how we could make
it better for you.

Closing Thought

From modern day mystic Marianne Williamson in her
book, A Return to Love. When
we
surrender to God, we surrender to
something bigger than ourselves - to a universe that
knows what it is doing. When we stop trying to
control events, they fall into a natural order, an
order that works. We're at rest while a power much
greater that our own takes over, and it does a much
better job than we could have done.

We learn to trust that the power that holds galaxies
together can handle the circumstances of our
relatively little lives. Surrender and Release...
